Cologne, known as Köln in German, is a major city in western Germany situated along the Rhine River. It is one of the oldest cities in the country, with a history dating back to Roman times. Cologne is famous for its stunning Gothic cathedral, the Kölner Dom, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the largest cathedrals in Europe. The city is a cultural hub, hosting numerous museums, galleries, and events such as the annual Cologne Carnival, one of the largest and most famous street festivals in Europe. Cologne is also known for its vibrant arts scene, diverse culinary offerings, and as a significant economic and media center, housing several television and radio stations. Its old town features picturesque streets, historic architecture, and lively pubs where the local beer, Kölsch, is served.
